Outside Amateur Radio

Last week Mike G0JMD spoke about a few radio related topics that while not directly amateur related  provided some good talking points.

He talked about how he first came across Amatuer Radio while in the army.

Other subjects included scanners, CB and ADSB recieving.

Mike showed some of the kit he has used over the years and talked of others that he had which caused some interesting discussions and memories from other members.

Thanks Mike for a good evening.

Railways On The Air

A busy and cosy operating location today at Vale of Berkeley Railway.

The Railway is looking to restore the branch line from the mainline at the former Berkeley Road Station through to Sharpness.

For more information on the railway society see the link The Vale Of Berkeley Railway.  They are looking for volunteers and donnations.

SDR & YOTA

Peter M0SVN is busy for the club at the moment. Last week he was the lead at our workshop night using the RTL dongles for SDR.

This week he is talking about YOTA.

Museums On the Air

The club was asked if we would like to operate from the Thornbury District Mueseum again.  So as part of Museums On The Air we did on Saturday 24th June.

Rex G4RAE and John M0HFH organised and setup the station using callsign GB4TDM. The bands available were 6m, 2m and 70cms.Peter G4OST, Mike G0JMD and Garry G7NVZ also took to the airwaves and operated the station

The furthest we got was a station in Italy. We also had contacts with other event stations though some of these were for Armed Forces Day. Other contacts were had with friends from GARES and other stations both mobile and fixed around the area.
